Dr. Shomali graduated from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, where she received a Doctorate of Dental Medicine degree. After practicing general dentistry for one year, she entered Boston University School of Dental Medicine. There, she studied the art of endodontics under the leadership of a world renowned endodontist, Dr. Herbert Schilder. She was awarded an Advanced Graduate Studies degree in Endodontics in 1993.
For the last twenty years, Dr. Shomali has been in private practice caring for patients in Wellesley and the surrounding communities. Her mission is to provide her patients with the highest quality endodontic treatment while easing their anxiety in a friendly, compassionate atmosphere.
Dr. Shomali attends seminars with general dentists and other specialists to stay current with their advancements in dentistry to be able to communicate with them about the best treatment for our mutual patients. She uses state-of-the-art endodontic equipment such as microscopes, digital radiographs and intraoral cameras and strictly adheres to all OSHA and CDC standards. Dr. Shomali enjoys treating patients of all ages, from children to seniors.
Dr. Shomali volunteers at the “Give Kids a Smile” program, which provides pro bono dental services for disadvantaged children. She has also been the OpenCare Patients’ Choice winner and has been nominated by her peers for the Boston Magazine Best Endodontist category.
Dr. Shomali is a participant in the Massachusetts Dental Society Mentor Program, in which she assists new dentists to become professional partners. Dr. Shomali has served as the president of the Charles River Study Club and chaired the Metropolitan District Dental Society, where she organized speakers for continuing education courses. She has also served on the Scientific Committee of the Yankee Dental Congress.
Dr. Marielena Gamboa-Ruiz was born and raised in Caracas – Venezuela, where she obtained her dental degree from Universidad Santa Maria in 2002, and later in Boston – MA, from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Gamboa-Ruiz completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program, and practiced as a general dentist for several years. During that time, she also worked as Clinical Professor at her alma mater. In 2014, Dr. Gamboa-Ruiz completed her residency in Endodontics at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and soon after, she was appointed Director of Pre-Doctoral Endodontics at TUSDM. In conjunction with her academic career, Dr. Gamboa-Ruiz has worked in private practice in the greater Boston area.
When not in the office, she enjoys spending time with her family, baking, traveling and making jewelry. Dr. Gamboa-Ruiz says: “I am passionate about my profession, clinically and academically. Teaching endodontics has represented an important pillar in my career. It is rewarding not only to have the ability to take patients out of pain, but also to teach and train future dentists and endodontists. Endodontics is the perfect combination of biology, art, and technology. It is fascinating to provide treatment to those in pain, while creating a unique piece of art, using the latest technology”.
